Where competent authorities use automated IT systems to allocate overall risk scores to subjects of assessment, and in particular in situations where they have not developed these in house but purchased them from an external provider or otherwise relied on external input, they should understand how the system works and how it combines or weighs risk factors to achieve an overall risk score. Competent authorities should always be satisfied that the scores allocated reflect their understanding of ML/TF risk associated with the subject of assessment.
