Article 1 1.
The objective of this Directive is to lay down measures and to supplement provisions already in force, with a view to preventing and reducing pollution by asbestos in the interests of the protection of human health and the environment.
Article 1 2.
This Directive shall be applied without prejudice to the provisions laid down by Directive 83/477/EEC.
