Assessment Objectives
In addition to relevant policies, standards and procedures, the assessor shall examine, interview, and/or test to determine if appropriately scoped evidence exists to support the claim that:
- DCH-22_A01 connections to external systems are identified.

Origin: 171A_3.1.20[f] - DCH-22_A07 terms and conditions consistent with the trust relationships established with other organizations owning, operating, and/or maintaining external systems are defined.
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20_ODP[01] 53A_R5_AC-20_ODP[02] - DCH-22_A08 controls asserted to be implemented on external systems consistent with the trust relationships established with other organizations owning, operating, and/or maintaining external systems are defined.
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20_ODP[03] - DCH-22_A09 types of external systems prohibited from use are defined.
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20_ODP[04] - DCH-22_A10 organization-defined criteria are consistent with the trust relationships established with other organizations owning, operating, and/or maintaining external systems, allowing authorized individuals to access the system from external systems (if applicable).
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20a.01 - DCH-22_A11 organization-defined criteria consistent with the trust relationships established with other organizations owning, operating, and/or maintaining external systems, allowing authorized individuals to process, store or transmit organization-controlled information using external systems (if applicable).
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20a.02 - DCH-22_A12 the use of organization-defined prohibited types of external systems is prohibited (if applicable).
Assessment rigor: 3
Origin: 53A_R5_AC-20b. - DCH-22_A13 security requirements to be satisfied on external systems prior to allowing the use of or access to those systems by authorized individuals are defined.
Assessment rigor: 2
Origin: 171A_R3_A.03.01.20.ODP[01] - DCH-22_A14 the use of external systems is prohibited unless the systems are specifically authorized.
Assessment rigor: 2
Origin: 171A_R3_A.03.01.20.a - DCH-22_A15 the following security requirements to be satisfied on external systems prior to allowing the use of or access to those systems by authorized individuals are established: <A.03.01.20.ODP[01]: security requirements>.
Defined parameters: Guidance: Organizations establish specific terms and conditions for the use of external systems in accordance with organizational security policies and procedures. At a minimum, terms and conditions address the specific types of applications that can be accessed on organizational systems from external systems and the highest security category of information that can be processed, stored, or transmitted on external systems. If the terms and conditions with the owners of the external systems cannot be established, organizations may impose restrictions on organizational personnel using those external systems. If applicable, use NIST SP 800-47 as a guide for establishing information exchanges between organizations.
Assessment rigor: NIST 800-171
Origin: 171A_R3_A.03.01.20.b - DCH-22_A16 authorized individuals are permitted to use external systems to access the organizational system or to process, store, or transmit CUI only after verifying that the security requirements on the external systems as specified in the organization’s system security plans have been satisfied.
Assessment rigor: NIST 800-171
Origin: 171A_R3_A.03.01.20.c.01 - DCH-22_A17 authorized individuals are permitted to use external systems to access the organizational system or to process, store, or transmit CUI only after retaining approved system connection or processing agreements with the organizational entity hosting the external systems.
Assessment rigor: NIST 800-171

- Secure Controls Framework -
The Secure Controls Framework® (SCF)
"The SCF is the Common Controls Framework™ (CCF), the world's most comprehensive cybersecurity and data privacy metaframework - it is also free to use. The entire concept is building secure, compliant and resilient capabilities in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
The SCF is more than just a unified control catalog, since its included content creates a playbook for Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) capabilities. Used globally by organizations of every size, the SCF is a robust and scalable solution for security, compliance and resilience controls. As a comprehensive security framework, the SCF maps 1,400+ controls across 200+ laws, regulations, and industry frameworks so you can implement once and comply everywhere.
Like it or not, cybersecurity is a protracted war on an asymmetric battlefield, where the threats are everywhere and as defenders we have to make the effort to work together to help improve cybersecurity and data privacy practices, since we all suffer when massive data breaches occur or when cyber attacks have physical impacts. Hackers share information on attack methods with other hackers, so why shouldn’t the good guys share information on how to best protect an organization? We decided to take action and make a difference, since we feel it is too important to wait for someone else to fix the problems that exist.
The SCF is made up of volunteers, mainly specialists within the cybersecurity profession, who focus on GRC and the cybersecurity side of data privacy. These are auditors, engineers, architects, incident responders, consultants and other specialists who live and breathe these topics on a daily basis. The end product is "expert-derived content" that makes up the SCF." https://securecontrolsframework.com/Terms & Conditions
