Notwithstanding Articles 18(2) and 22(3), Member States may, upon request, grant EU type-approval for, and authorise the placing on the market of, engines that meet the gaseous and particulate pollutant emission limit values for special purpose engines set out in Annex VI, on the condition that the engines are intended for installation in non-road mobile machinery that is exclusively used for the launch and recovery of lifeboats operated by a national rescue service.
