Institutions should have documented processes in place to assign the position of the head of an internal control function and for withdrawing his or her responsibilities. In any case, the heads of internal control functions should – and under Article 76(5) of Directive 2013/36/EU the head of the risk management function must – not be removed without the prior approval of the management body in its supervisory function. In significant institutions, competent authorities should be promptly informed about the approval and the main reasons for the removal of a head of an internal control function.
